We see Justus Lipsius, the most important Southern Netherlandish representative of neo-Stoicism and humanism and his pupils Johannes Woverius (pictured right in profile) and Filips Rubens. To the side, behind his brother Philip, is Rubens himself. In a niche is a bust of the Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca, who considered the people portrayed as their spiritual father.
