In early 1970, Corgi had released a Golden Jacks (take-off wheels) version of this car (#273). But times were changing fast - both Matchbox and Dinky were churning out models with 'easy-running' wheels, and the Golden Jacks-wheels were not only far from 'easy-running', they were also very expensive to produce. As a result, Corgi retired the old version very fast (some say as early as mid 1970, others 1971) and replaced it with this new whizzwheels-version. The same sources that disagree on the retirement date of the Golden Jacks-version, also disagree on the release date of the Whizzwheels-version. One says October 1970, another says 1972. The latter seems the most plausible - to retire a model after only 6 monts or so seems a little too drastic and the boxart for the Whizzwheels-version shows other models released in 1971.
