Box (360x106x42mm) is of Italian origin. The low, narrow and very rectangular box is made of stapled cardboard covered with printed pattern paper. De loose lid, that has been repaired, features a dragon, the word MAH JONGG in fancy Chinese letters and some misinterpreted characters. There is also a sticker of a still existing Milanese toy shop. The also stapled interior is covered with the same paper and contains three compartments. One for the tiles. One for the counters and dice. And one for four metal racks covered with (1x red and 3x white) paper protected by a layer of some transparent material. Tiles (20x30x6mm) are Italian. Made of thick, layered cardboard. Covered on both sides with off-white paper. Printed with primitive imitations of Chinese characters and graphics in very thin lines. There are no spare tiles. Counters are thin rectangles with cut of corners made of white, blue, green and red celluloid. Dice (2x) are made of black wood with white Western points. There are no wind indicators and instruction manual. The set is bought in a Mah Jongg factory annex shop in Ravenna. Taking in account the used materials the set can be dated somewhere between 1940 and 1950.
