I myself have a database containing about 2500 books, a substantial part of which is not yet on Catawiki. Of course I don't feel like retyping those books one by one, but would like to share my data.

I think the data complies with the applicable rules within the bibliography (see my site http://www.libri.nl/privatelibrary). Each piece of information (title, author, subtitle, publisher, place of publishing, year, edition, language, translated from, translated by, bound / paperback, and some other information) is stored separately in a field per book. I can easily export to numerous formats and build a query to present the data in a specific order.

Is there a way to automatically upload this data or something like that? So that others can also see which parts the famous beautiful series "Ambo-classic" has, etc.

Best regards. Danny Habets

That of the photos is correct. I understand that the presence of a photo is useful, but on the other hand: something (and in this case many well-described titles) is more than nothing.

In principle, I offer the data free of charge. The photos I have available, most of them made myself, may also be used. I am not going to do the - also very labor-intensive - work of photographing all the books and providing them with the correct name or linking them. Maybe others can lend a hand - it's a wiki after all.

Over time, more and more photos of important items from my collection (certain series, authors) will be available, which I will share.

By the way, is a photo also one of the minimum requirements if you put the books one by one?

Yes.

http://www.catawiki.nl/help/faq

Why is adding an image mandatory?
On the one hand because the site looks much more attractive visually and is more user-friendly if all items have an image. On the other hand, because we want to make sure that an item actually exists and we can verify that via the image.

As I said, I fully understand why, the above reaction is therefore not an answer to the question.

It's just about: does Catawiki want the data or not? I do want to put some effort into data processing to deliver it in the correct data format and supply the existing photos, but that is largely the end of it.

It's just an offer ...

Is "yes" not an answer to the question?

Indeed, Catawiki does not want your data if there is no photo of the item. Those are the rules that every user must adhere to.

By the way, you will also have to check in advance, regardless of whether you add the books manually or if Marco wants to upload them automatically from your database, to ensure that your books are not already partly in the catalog, in order to avoid duplications (which then have to be removed manually). .

@Danny,

First of all, thank you for your kind offer!

I have just looked at http://www.libri.nl/privatelibrary for your data (if you search without filling in any fields, you will see everything). Indeed, I see that most books do not have an image and many images are also a photo instead of a scan (scans are much nicer). It is therefore less interesting for us to work with this file (especially because there are still a lot of files waiting for us to process).

Of course you are more than welcome to supplement our catalog where necessary. Thank you very much if you want to help.
