I often see complete descriptions listed with the title. Personally, I think that what is mentioned at the front or the back should be placed in the title box. Other additional descriptions should be posted in detail

Freecards (especially boomerang) currently have a number in the description. That number is used by Dutch collectors, but is less useful for theme collections. A separate field for such a number is more convenient. In order to organize the collection, you must be able to sort by such a number.

With many foreign freecards, the cards are already numbered by the publisher.

@Jilles: But with place names it is very inconvenient to only mention the place name and what to do if there is nothing on the map at all?

If there is only a place name on it, I think it should be in the title and a very short description in brackets. And then the extensive description in the details or street name field, if there is a street/water to be mentioned.

If there's no text at all, I'd suggest using No Text as the title and then a very brief description in parentheses.

@john-van-veen: I also agree with a separate field for card number, because then you can sort your cards by number from a publisher.

And how do you add a postcard if, in addition to the description and place name, a card number is also placed on the front?

I have 2 of the same cards, only 1 card also has the card number after the description. Is that a different card or is it possible with the notes / details?

In this case you put the number in the title of the card, this is also a variant

I only find the title extra information with particulars and place name in title a bit duplicated. is not necessary, you can search by location. nor mention the theme in the title. or designer etc. Just keep it brief. Advantage scans say more than the description in this section. (region province works nicely)

what is the deal now I'm adding a few cards

ask

title is this :?

Place item description?

or Item description place

as it says on the card?

I find place double on you have to add this (place) in addition, one does it with - the other with .

in addition, dimensions is that with comma or period?

wonder if mm isn't prettier?

There are no really clear agreements, although in the beginning there were administrators who wanted the title to be exactly as stated. Spoorzicht at ARNHEM, there is also something to be said for that. I think it is better if you use the full title, but with lowercase letters. Do mention the place name if it is there.

The fact that most cards are missing has to do with the first input, where the title is computer-technically ripped apart. I've been adjusting this for some time now. As well as assigning themes to the more than 5000 cards, where this is missing.

There are many cards entitled: "Greetings From"

Or as on the front of the card: 2701101 Spoorzicht at instead of Spoorzicht at Arnhem

I often use a dash between the city name and the (usually) street name if they are far apart on the map. Others use a comma if it is so on the card. Nothing wrong with me.

No title on the front? Then it is usually on the back. If not: (short description between ())

Dimensions in cm; . or, doesn't matter. Automatically converted to.

City name is clear

Province / Region Can also be Betuwe, but state the province name.

Street name preferably as it is now spelled: Utrecht se Straatweg instead of Utrecht sch e Straatweg. (I'm using Google Maps for this). Nice to see what it was like then.

Theme. Please as much as possible and also globally. Besides Mill "de Sloot" also Mills etc.

The theme field is a nice search mechanism for the collector. City name and / or province name is not necessary in this field.

Please note & gt; The above are my ideas about the content of the card catalog and are mainly about postcards of places, etc.

That sounds very good indeed, but then I still have a number of questions / suggestions:

What to do if the city name is on it in the local language? Earnewald instead of Eernewoude for example (Frisian). Do you enter the Dutch place name or that other name? I myself am for the Dutch place name, but then you must mention the original place name in the title.

Themes should they be in plural or singular or can both? For example, is it Train or Trains, Boat or Boats, Sailboats or Sailboat, Hotel or Hotels? I think we should go for the plural form, because then you have summarized everything

Street name: What about lost street names? You can therefore no longer fill in the current street, which has often happened in Amsterdam. Furthermore, I find your idea of current street names not entirely useful, because if a street has been renamed, then it can no longer be found on the street, only by title. For example, Willemstraat was originally a canal, Goudsbloemgracht. (Amsterdam is one of my collective specialties) My solution is to enter the old name and also the new name, so enter 2 x street name.

Incidentally, I also suffered from the Oops .. case and had to log in again to respond.

Plural excellent idea so Hotels, etc. Street names is trickier the example of. Utrechtschestraatweg which was later split into street and road! Copying the title literally is then simple and clear

Botermarkt, Rembrandplein, Rembrandtplein, Rembrandtsplein and then later again Rembrandtplein. You can see all this on the postcard, but for a distinction it is very important to copy the title as literally as possible.

Of course, place names are excluded and now fortunately also card numbers.

I find another card on the other side. Preferably add a scan of the back, and / or indicate in the description that there is a difference on the back. In the example of Dick52 I would then include:

"without publisher"

and with the other card:

"with publisher".

So mention something with both cards.

By the way, is it certain that the card was issued by the same issuer without being issued? With a number of cards I have the problem that I am not sure whether the card was issued by the same issuer.

Perhaps an idea to fill in the publisher generally and leave the publisher as on card at least empty.

Another issue:

In a situation where there appear to be two backsides, there should actually be a message to collectors who have (or have for sale) the card in their collection. The best is and remains a scan of the back immediately upon placement in Catawiki. It is a lot of work to do that.

not necessary

fill in nothing why is nothing on scan just 2 scans most simple, especially in this section you only have 2 sides should be mandatory as far as I am concerned

and with the other card:

"with publisher".

So mention something with both cards.

nonsense editor can simply be mentioned if it is recognizable

By the way, is it certain that the card was issued by the same issuer without being issued? With a number of cards I have the problem that I am not sure whether the card was issued by the same issuer.

I do not understand this well, no publisher is mentioned, only the picture on the front matches

so just don't mention the publisher simply

Perhaps an idea to fill in the publisher generally and leave the publisher as on card at least empty.

how do you want to fill this in? nothing is mentioned on it

Why?

I can imagine that especially in the beginning of Catawiki was introduced quickly and without the knowledge that we now have.

The point is that many old importers often no longer respond.

even if I add an item and say it says 1 scan and I have the same image I add the backside if the first importer has added it reasonably accurately, there are a number of characteristics already indicated, if they match, you can assume that this correct

and a lot of work? in this section?

the only thing that should be cleaned up in my opinion are the publishers that I find messy, but that's another story.

Publishers may indeed be cleaned up a bit at Publisher as well as on card and Publisher General.

Often there are duplicates in it. The problem with cleaning, however (and certainly with Publisher as on card) is that we do want to know exactly what is on the card. This is because then we can see a bit of the era and the evolution of a publisher's cards. I personally think it is important that Publisher as on card must be correctly stated with periods and commas and that nothing is forgotten. What may be merged are publishers with too many spaces.

I will report them when I come across them.
