Cure, The

The Cure is a new wave band formed in Crawley (United Kingdom) in 1976. Originally the band was called The Easy Cure . In addition to new wave, the band is also placed in the genres of gothic rock and post-punk.

The band debuted in 1979 with the album Three Imaginary Boys . The first single, Killing an Arab , immediately caused controversy due to the alleged racist nature of the song. In fact, it was based on Albert Camus' novel "L'Étranger". But it was the single " Boys Don't Cry " in June 1979 that opened the way for the group to modest cult status.

In 1980, The Cure broke through on a large scale with the LP Seventeen Seconds , of which the single A Forest became an international hit. The style of Seventeen Seconds was called gothic or post-punk by some. A style that closely resembles the music of "Joy Division" and to which "Siouxsie and the Banshees" also converted. After Pornography , Robert Smith, singer/guitarist and driving force behind The Cure , put the group on hiatus and devoted himself almost entirely to "Siouxsie and the Banshees", filling in as guitarist. He also made the album "Blue Sunshine" with the bassist of the Banshees, Steven Severin, which was released under the group name "The Glove".

In the early eighties Smith released some of his own songs under the name The Cure . With successful songs like Let's go to bed , The Walk and The Lovecats he broke completely with the doom music of the previous albums: Seventeen Seconds , Faith and Pornography . During this time, Robert Smith also plays the media with vague statements and often alludes to the end of the band. Throughout the 1980s, The Cure 's sound continued to move between the nimbleness of their debut album and the doom sound of A Forest . The band grew into one of the most popular new wave bands.

The albums The Top , The Head On The Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me still contain heavy songs, in keeping with the depressive and, according to many, suicidal state Robert Smith himself was in. There were many personnel changes and the album The Top was almost entirely sung and played by Smith. Only the drum parts didn't come from him, but from Andy Anderson.

The albums Bloodflowers and The Cure are again laced with heavy sound from the time of Pornography and Faith . Also during this time the DVD Trilogy is being recorded in Berlin with only songs from Bloodflowers , Pornography and Disintegration . As an extra there are two songs from the album Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me : The Kiss and If Only Tonight We Could Sleep .

Also in 1995, The Cure made the Dredd Song for the movie "Judge Dredd", starring Sylvester Stallone. It was not until 2004 that it was released on CD in Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978–2001 (The Fiction Years) .

During the 1990s and early into the new millennium, the band was less prominent, to a new crop of successful groups, including "The Departure", "The Go-Betweens", "Interpol" and "Editors" The Cure as called a source of inspiration. In 2004 this resulted in a number of new projects and a new CD, called The Cure , which according to Robert Smith captures the essence of the group.

In May 2008, The Cure announced via MySpace that they would release a thirteenth album. The band also announced that they would release a single on every thirteenth day of the month (May, June, July and August) until the album's release. The Only One was released on May 13, followed by Freakshow in June, followed by Sleep when i'm dead in July, followed by The perfect boy in August, each of the four singles featuring an extra track that was not included on the CD. .

The Cure is een in 1976 in Crawley (Verenigd Koninkrijk) gevormde new waveband. Oorspronkelijk heette de band The Easy Cure.

Als extra staan er twee nummers op van het album Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me: The Kiss en If Only Tonight We Could Sleep.

Pas in 2004 werd het op CD uitgebracht in Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978–2001 (The Fiction Years).
