Stamps from Lebanon

F - Le Liban est un État du Proche-Orient. In the great part of the Montagneux, the frontiers of Syria are 376 km from the north, Israel is 79 km from the south and Chypre is 220 km from the coast of the Levantin basin (partie orientale de la mer Méditerranée). Beyrouth is the capital and the grande ville. In 1926, the Liban adopted a premiere constitution, devient officialdom of a république, introduced the name of the « République libanaise » and created the posts of the President of the Republic and the President of the Council of Ministers.

E - Lebanon is a state in the Middle East. Largely mountainous, it shares its borders with Syria to the north and east for 376 km, Israel to the south for 79 km and Cyprus to the west, off its 220 km of coastline in the Levantin basin (eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea). Beirut is the capital and largest city. As a geopolitical entity and as it exists in its present borders, the Lebanese state was created in 1920 under the name of “Grand Liban” by France (the French high commissioner in Lebanon is then General Gouraud) by adjoining the territory of the moutassarifat of Mount Lebanon (autonomous entity of the Ottoman Empire) of territories that belonged to the two Ottoman wilayets of Beirut and Damascus. France was then, following the dismantling of the Ottoman Empire, mandated by the League of Nations to administer and organize certain ex-Ottoman territories. In 1926, Lebanon adopted its first constitution, officially became a republic, took the name of «Lebanese Republic» and created the posts of president of the Republic and president of the Council of Ministers. The first stamps from 1926 are French postage stamps with the overprint «GRAND LIBAN».
