The State Chamba is part of Himachal Pradesh, one of the states forming India. It is situated at the foot of the Himalaya’s and partly bordered by Cashemere. From 1846 the State was a British Protectorate. During 1884-1887 a number of conventions were agreed with other states. Therefore, the participants are known as “Convention States”.
From 1887 stamps of British India were used. The various Convention States each had their particular overprint.
After India attained independence, the overprinted stamps were withdrawn and substituted by the regular issues of the Republic of India.
