Brooklands Green The attractive Harris Mann styled ‘ADO 71’ range of cars was originally launched in March 1975 as the Austin, Morris and Wolseley 18-22 Series. However such was the indecision and confusion within the British Leyland marketing and product planning departments that by September of that year it had been re-launched as ‘Princess from Leyland Cars’; losing any sort of brand identity in marketing terms, although Austin was often written on the log books! Attractive, well equipped, comfortable, superbly packaged and adventurous in its engineering and features, the Princess followed what had by then become a Longbridge tradition and used transverse engines, front wheel drive and linked hydragas suspension. Initially the car carried over the ADO17 ‘land-crab’s’ B-series 1.8-litre and E6 2.2-litre engines. However in 1978 it was updated and fitted with 1.7-litre and 2.0-litre versions of the new OHC O-series engine, which had much cleaner exhaust emissions. Soon after its initial launch the Princess acquired a reputation for poor production quality, which it never quite shook off. Limited Edition 5.010 pcs. (with certificate)
