This series also appears in the catalog as Gonza, Manuello Y. Anyway, they can be put together and it seems to me that Manuello y. Gonza is the correct name.

It is often written as Manuello y Gonza, but according to the headline in the comic, that point belongs behind it. I suspect it is the initial of his middle name, so the Y must also be a capital letter. But maybe someone who knows the comic can provide more clarity about it.

I really have no idea what the y stands for. As the book magazine already writes, the comic has a period after the y, which indeed suggests that it should be a name. I think it's more in the tradition of Ollie B. and stuff. Incidentally, for the B. an editor of Tom Poes Weekblad once entered the B when asked by a reader with Berendinus (or similar). To the great anger of Marten Toonder, who was of the opinion that the B. stood on its own and gave extra cachet to a gentleman of standing.

In Spanish, y means "and".

The Spaniards work with both father's and mother's surnames. The surnames are linked with y.

This may have been intended as a parody by the author.
