Indonesian edition of Tom Poes and the flying caliph / Kalifah Terbang. What is a caliph of Baghdad who can't fly after his flying carpet is torn? “Tuan Bomma” (Heer Bommel) and “Tommy” (Tom Poes) find a solution to that problem. In 1952, KLM released the promotional booklet “Tom Poes en de Vliegende Caliph”. Until now it was unknown that in 1972 (so more than 50 years ago) a completely new and redrawn version of this booklet was published in Indonesian! The title: “Kalifah Terbang” (translated: Flying Caliph) by Marten Toonder. It was published by “RN” and with the official permission of “Komdak Metro Djaja” (control and approval of the then government institute). The drawings are by a local Indonesian cartoonist and not by Toonder himself. Heer Bommel and Tom Poes have been completely redrawn (and almost unrecognizable).
