Catalogue information
Large, heavy shell with a distinctive round lip. Occurs in the Western Pacific Ocean. 100-200mm, usually around 150-160mm. There is debate as to what the correct genus is for this species. On the one hand we have Thersistrombus (see Vertriest, 2021), Sinustrombus (see Liverani, 2014) and Solidistrombus (see Dekkers, 2008; Dekkers sees the genera in Bandel (2007) as "unavailable" and "Nomen nuda"). Personally, I follow the naming convention introduced by Bandel (2007), but with the last name published. Latissistrombus was considered a synonym of Sinustrombus by Liverani (2014) and Sinustrombus was in turn seen as a synonym for Thersistrombus by Vertriest (2021). Whatever the genus, the shell remains the same!
