In September 2002, Amsterdam finished in 2nd place at home behind Kazakhstan in the battle for the Continental Cup. Ice hockey has been played in Amsterdam since 1934. The current ice hockey club Amsterdam Tigers was founded in 1963, and currently plays (2019-2020 season) in the 1st division. Until 2019, Amsterdam won the National title six times, in 1939 by the A.IJ.H.C. , in 1950 by the Kingfishers. The Boretti Tigers did that in 2002 and 2003. The Amsterdam Bulldogs in 2004 and 2005.
