Details

House coin (reward coin) from Het Hoogeland in Beekbergen. Hoogeland was founded in 1892 by two men, including a minister from Voorthuizen. They took tramps and 'vagabonds' and let them muck out pig pens in the farm in exchange for a packet of bread. The two asked Count Van Limburg Stirum to assist them with advice and assistance; he was later called the main road. For the tramps 'Beekbergen' was the better alternative over the penal colony Veenhuizen. They milked the cows, worked the land. And slept in large halls. 'Het Hoogeland Colony' housed alcoholics and spirits drinkers. Ex-prisoners from Veenhuizen were also received.
