IJ.H.C. Triantha Assen was active between 1972 and 1979 in the Ice Hockey and Event Hall "Triantha Hall". They were sponsored by Peters & Jager (1974), Géform (1976/77) respectively. In 1975 and 1976 they achieved 1st place in the 2nd division North. After internal struggles, the club was disbanded in 1978. On September 18, 1978, the IJ.H.C. Assen founded, later playing under the name Assen Rams. Assen won the Coupe der Lage Landen in 1980 by beating Brussels 2-0 in the final, in 1987 this coupe was again won by beating Olympia Heist op den Berg. In 1980 the club became 1st in the 2nd division by winning 19 out of 20 matches and 1 draw. In 1987 Assen became 1st in the 2nd division North and in 1992 and 1996 they became champions of the 1st division. The home base (Triantha-Hal) closed in 1999 due to sale (leasehold) of the ice rink to entrepreneur Henny v.d. Must. The Assen Rams then played until 16.3.2008 in Groningen where the last game, semi-final play-offs 2nd division against Amsterdam, was won 10-4. Assen officially lost the last final match against The Hague because it could not get a full team on the final date planned by the Bond. In March 2016, the 400-meter outdoor track in Assen was also closed for good.
