Details

Trencin became one of the centers of the recatholization movement in the northwestern region of the Hungarian Kingdom in the 17th century. As part of this movement, the Jesuits built an extensive complex in the town square in the period 1653-1657. The statue of the Holy Trinity stands in the center of Mierové Námestie (peace square); it was built in 1712 by Count Nicolaus llleshazy to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic. The obverse of the commemorative coin shows Trenčin Castle with a fragment of the Roman inscription. The national problem of the Slovak Republic is depicted at the bottom. The reverse shows a design of the historically preserved area of Trenčin from above. This shows historical sights, such as the castle and the triangular square. On the left the words "PAMIATKOVÁ REZERVÁCIA" (historically preserved area).
