OBV: Emperor's laureate, draped bust right REV: Eagle supporting wreath containing SPQR The ancient city of Caesarea Maritima, Samaria was built by Herod I, around 25-13 BCE. Built on a coast with few natural harbors, in ancient times it was considered to rival the impressive harbor at Alexandria. The harbor foundation and fortifications were severely damaged through a series of seismic activity and it became unusable as a harbor by the 6th century. Its ruins are located on the Mediterranean coast of modern-day Israel near the town of Caesaria about halfway between the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa. It is now an Israeli National Park Minted at Caesarea, Samaria (aka, Strato's Tower), SPQR denotes a Classic Latin phrase "Senātus Populus Que Rōmānus", or "The Roman Senate and People"
