Florent-Antoine Heller (1841-1904) was born in Alsace and he started working for Tiffany in New York City in 1871. He was awarded of the Gold Medal for the Service de Table called "Olympia" (which was bought by the Prince of Wales) . In 1875, he was sent to France into exhibit at the Salon des Artistes Francais, two galvano plaques: - The Alsace as a Slave (ordered by The Alsace Lorraine Society in NYC ) and - "Time and Seasons" (ordered by the Agricultural Society of Rhode Island). The specimen is probably one of two F.A. Heller pieces sent from Tiffany’s NYC to Paris, in 1875, and may be an "Epreuve d’Auteur", or pattern, of the Artist's very early work, in order to submit to the approbation of Jury Members at an exhibition or to a Mint. Such pieces are extremely rare (1 or 2 in existence).
