Original editorial cartoon on card in pencil, probably published in the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, around 1936, shows the Italian ‘Duce’ Mussolini, the German ‘Fuehrer’ Hitler and Soviet dictator Stalin, each holding a ventriloquist dummy which represents the press in their own country. Censorship and propaganda were the norm in all of the media in these countries (printed press, radio, cinema) and censorship ensured that ordinary people could only see and hear what the government wanted, so the press is by no means the ‘voice of the people’. Card size 56 x 43 cm (22 x 17 inch), image size 54 x 42 cm, signed lower right, title in pencil on verso. In very good condition.
