Portrait of Paulus Potter (1625-1654) at work in his studio. Potter left about a hundred paintings, most of them in small format. In addition to paintings, he also made a small number of etchings. Originally he painted history paintings, just like his father. However, he became famous as a beast painter, because he mainly painted the cattle in the Dutch landscape. He painted realistically, paying close attention to the skin, the expression and the attitude of the animals.
