Portrait bust to the left of Jan Both (c. 1615 - 1652). Both was the son of a glass painter. He was apprenticed to Abraham Bloemaert, as well as his brother Andries. The two brothers went to Italy, where Andries is mentioned from 1635, and Jan from 1638. For two years they lived together in a house in Rome. Jan and Andries became members of the Bentvueghels, an association of mainly Dutch and Flemish artists working in Rome. In 1641 they traveled to Venice, where Andries died in March 1642. Jan returned to Utrecht and became a member of the painters' guild there. He trained a number of other painters and was supported by the Utrecht collector Baron van Wyttenhorst. After his death he was buried in the Buurkerk. Etching and engraving by Coenraet Waumans (1619-1661), after the painting by Abraham Willaerts (c. 1603 - 1669). Published in Antwerp by Joannes Meyssens, in 1662, in: "Het gulden Cabinet vande noble vry Schilder-const". Signed in print.
