Portrait bust to the left in an oval cartouche by Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658). At the bottom of the title in a cartouche. Cromwell was an English soldier, statesman and lord protector of England, Scotland and Ireland. He led the republican forces in the English Civil Wars against the Anglican, but at the same time pro-Vatican King Charles I. This eventually led to the abolition of the monarchy in 1649. After having Charles I beheaded, Cromwell became head of state of the English Commonwealth, which means he stayed until his death in 1658. Copper engraving, maker unknown. Made around 1680. Presumably as a book illustration. Numbered top right: fol. 567.
