Portrait bust in oval to the right of Guilielmus Macdowell, also known as: William Makdowell (1590-1667), professor of law in Groningen, bareheaded. The oval frame has a Latin border inscription, in the margin a four-line Latin verse by Franciscus Iunius. Makdowell was a Scottish philosopher. He was the first professor of philosophy at the university that was founded in 1614 in Groningen. Etching and engraving by Steven van Lamsweerde (c. 1620 - 1686).
