Portrait bust to the left of professor Franciscus Cornelis Donders (1818-1889). Donders was a Dutch professor of medicine and physiology. He did a lot of research in eye physiology in which field he gained a great reputation. We owe the current classification, explanation and correction of eye abnormalities to him. Donders studied in Utrecht, but took his exams in Leiden. He worked for several years as a military doctor in Vlissingen and The Hague. In 1852 he was appointed professor in Utrecht. Donders was a physiologist. His specialization in ophthalmology made him the most important Dutch physician of his time. He later became Utrecht as director of the Physiological Laboratory Lithograph by Frederik Hendrik Weissenbruch (1828-1887). Published by Emrik & Binger, c. 1860. Signed in print.
