Portrait of Arnoldus Vinnius at the age of 49, professor at the Leiden Law Faculty. Breast piece in oval frame with motto Virtutis laus omnis in actione consistit. At the bottom in the margin a Latin verse by Marcus Zuerius Boxhorn. Vinnius was a Dutch lawyer. He is seen as the first lawyer of the so-called Humanist School. Together with Hugo de Groot, he is regarded as the founder of the so-called Roman-Dutch law. Etching and engraving by Cornelis I van Dalen (1602-1665), after the painting by Pieter Dubordieu (c. 1610 - 1678). Published in Amsterdam in 1641 by Cornelis Danckerts and Jacobus Lauwikius.
