Portrait of the Dutch physician IJsbrand van Diemerbroeck (1609-1674), professor in Utrecht. Shown in an oval frame while flipping through a book. Utrecht Cathedral is visible in the background. Below the frame is a cartouche with four lines of Latin text by Lucas van de Poll and an allegorical figure on either side. In addition to his professorship, Van Diemerbroeck worked in Nijmegen from 1635-1636 and published a famous bullying tract in 1644.
