Portrait bust to the right inside oval by Gerard van Velzen (? -1307). Van Velzen was a knight, secretary and murderer of Count Floris V in 1296. He was lord of Beverwijk, Noordwijk and Velsen. Van Velsen's classic motive for murdering Floris V would have been that Count Floris raped Gerard's wife Machteld. This motif was used by Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, among others, in his 1613 play Geeraerdt van Velsen. Copper engraving, made by Pieter van Gunst (c. 1659 - 1731). Published in Amsterdam, ca.1700.
