Original editorial cartoon on card in pencil and crayon, published in the World-Telegram and Sun, 1938, shows people from various walks of life waiting on “State unemployment insurance benches’ to receive ‘benefit checks’. A finely observed and beautifully executed representation of 1930s depression America. Card size 46 x 36.5 cm (18 x 14.5 inch), image size 39 x 30 cm, signed and dated 5/17/38 in lower corner. Caption in upper border. Slight age-toning but otherwise in excellent condition.
