Portrait bust to the right within oval of Cornelis Schrevelius (1608-1664). He was a Dutch physician, studied in Leiden and completed his studies in France. After that he was a doctor in The Hague and from 1642 rector of the Latin School in Leiden. He published works by classical authors under the pseudonym 'Variorum'. His most important work, however, was a Greek-Latin and Latin-Greek dictionary: Lexicon manuale Graeco-Latinum et Latino-Graecum, which first appeared in 1654 and was reprinted many times up to the 19th century. Copper engraving by Johann Christoph Böcklin (1657-1709), after Reinier van Persijn (1615-1668). Signed in print. Made in Leipzig around 1680.
