Portrait bust to the right within oval of General Jean-Baptiste Jourdan (1762-1833), from 1819 Count Jourdan. He was a French soldier, politician and marshal of France. Jourdan became a prominent supporter of Napoleon during the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire. As a thank you, Napoleon appointed him Inspector General of Cavalry and Infantry in 1800 and in 1804 he was given the title of Marshal of France. Jourdan stayed in Italy until 1806, until Joseph Bonaparte, King of Naples, asked him to become his military adviser. Stippelets by François Bonneville (active: 1791-1814), after own design. Signed in print. Made around 1795.
