Portrait of the philosopher John Locke (1632-1704). At the center of the frame are coat of arms and a four-line Latin verse by Jean le Clerc (1657-1736). Locke was an early enlightenment philosopher. His ideas were of great importance to current political thinking. Etching and engraving by François Morellon La Cave (1696-1768), its the painting by Gottfried Kneller (1646-1723).
