Details
Original political cartoon drawing in pen and ink with blue crayon on card, probably 1936, a comment on the growth of the German air force and a comparison of the British and German air forces (British air power (the hen) and German “ditto” (the ostrich)). Sir John Simon states that: “They are just the same size..... NOW” Simon was Foreign Secretary in a government which turned a blind eye to the growth of the German air force in breach of the terms of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. Written under the cartoon in pencil by the artist: Even if Sir John Simon accepts Herr Hitler’s statement that Germany’s air force is now on a level with our own, it is evident that with her power of growth acceleration we shall soon be left far behind”. Originals by ‘Poy’ (Percy Fearon (1874-1943) seem to be very scarce. Framed and matted (from Abbott & Holder, 30 Museum Street WC1A ILH London) for an overall size of 50 x 41.5 cm, image size 27 x 20 cm. Signed lower right, in very good condition.
