Details

Rare R2 Valerius Romulus (ca. 292-5 - 309) was the son of the Western Roman emperor-usurper Maxentius. His mother was Valeria Maximilla, daughter of Emperor Galerius. Romulus was consul with his father in 308 and 309. He was probably supposed to be appointed as consul every year, just like his father, but he died as a boy. After his death, he was elevated to the status of Divus ("deified"), and a temple of Divus Romulus was built in his honor on the Forum Romanum. He was buried in the mausoleum of Romulus that his father had built near his own residence, the villa of Maxentius, along the Via Appia.
