Ice hockey club Thialf was founded in Heerenveen in 1967. Since 1975 the club is called "Flyers". During Feenstra Heating's sponsorship period, the Flyers became national champions seven times in a row (1977-1983). Subsequently, the Flyers became national champions again in 2016, 2017 and 2020. Gedurende de sponsorperiode van Feenstra Verwarming werden de Flyers zeven keer op rij landskampioen (1977-1983). Vervolgens werden de Flyers in 2016 , 2017 en 2020 opnieuw Landskampioen. Tot en met seizoen 2020 veroverden de Flyers maar liefst dertien keer de Nationale Beker.
