Details
COVENTRY is major city in the heart of England which rose like ahounix after nearly being destroyed early in World War II, Due to a shortage of vehicles during the war years, the city was allocated 9 Bedford OEB's, numbered 290 to 298. These had a utility type body and as such they were a little different from the Corgi Bedford OB. They saw very little service and were withdrawn in 1948. For many years, the manager of Coventry Transport favoured the AEC but found he was in a position where he had to buy from local manufactures such as Daimler and Maudslay. To satisfy everyone, many of the Daimler's in the City fleet were powered by AEX engines but in 1951 a unique batch of 9 buses (numbered 117 to 125) was delivered. These were basically AEC Regent III;s but were assembled at the local Maudslay factory and as such became Maudlay's Regent III's. This was possible due to Maudslay having been bought out by AEC in the late 1940's. These buses were withdrawn from service in 1964-65. The vehicles were similar in appearance to the Corgi AEC double decker model included in this set, Limited Edition 10.000 pcs. (with certificate)
