Details

In 1951 the hopjes factory of Nieuwerkerk, (from 1770) - badly hit in WWII, by bombardment in The Hague - was taken over by competitor Rademaker (from 1875). Nieuwerkerk billed itself as the inventors of the "Haagse Hopje" - the "Eenig Echt". The cans of Nieuwerkerk carry (the only one!) The coat of arms of Baron Hop - the man who is said to have developed this candy. The spelling on this can dates from before the spelling change of 1947. So this is the year I assign it, but wrs. is it older! This tin is marked Anno 1794. Extremely rare
