Details
The medallion was unearthed in the Ophel excavations (Jerusalem, Israel), in the floor of a ruined Byzantine structure, about 50 meters from the Temple Mount’s southern wall. It was probably abandoned during the Persian conquest of Jerusalem in 614 CE, and was found with 36 late Byzantine period (early seventh century CE) gold coins.
