Details
test print by David Cooper (1948) (Swansea, Brugge) for his 1996 exhibition 'Subtle Mystery' at 'Gynaika Festival' (BE) The prints exposed measure 40x50 or 30x60 although the image size remained the same as these test prints. The prints are made on art paper sensitized with light sensitive chemicals that predate silver, such as ferrous salts, Natrium Dichromate and watercolours and gum Arabic. They also represent an attempt to bring together 'historically incompatible' elements: - the printing methods which were in use between 1850-1900 - Pseudo-solarisation (the Sabbatier effect) discovered in ca.1930 (and still not fully understood) - A modern eye Literary quotations are from sources such as Jean Gennet, Norman Mailer, Donna Tart, Aldous Huxley, William Blake etc. quote, signature e.a in pencil
