Details

4 engraved caricatures and large folding engraved plan of London. First edition of the third part of a satirical voyage through Europe, which here does not go farther than by boat to England, and then to London. In 1802 the publication was continued, and four more parts were published up to 1809. Arend Fokke was the son of the engraver Simon Fokke who illustrated the first Dutch edition of Perrault "s" Contes de ma mère l "Oye" with 8 engraved plates , in 1754. Our author read the present work to the members of "Felix Meritis", a Society of Art and Science, to which the work was also dedicated. This Society was active at Amsterdam from 1777 to 1888, and the building, founded by the Society on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, is still known by the name "Felix Meritis". Arend Fokke wrote a large number of popular works. Waller lists several titles by Fokke, but not the present one.
