Details

The Nebbiolo grapes for the Barbaresco of Gaja traditionally came from different vineyards. That is how Angelo's father, grandfather and his father before that did it. Although young Angelo would not end this tradition, he had launched a new line of Barbarescos from a single, private vineyard. In the meantime more and more interest had arisen for these experimental single vinyard wines from the same region! The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine come from fourteen hectares of self-cultivated orchards located at an altitude of 225 to 290 meters between the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso. After the harvest, the grapes are fermented on stainless steel for three to four weeks. Then the wine is raised on wood in two stages. First six months in barrique, then twelve months in large oak tubs. The Barbaresco of Gaja is a wine that combines all the characteristics of the fourteen different Nebbiology standards. It is a very balanced complex wine with plums and ripe berries. In addition, a light licorice taste, beautiful wood tones and the right acidity. Each Barbaresco is a clear reflection of its harvest year. Good years give corresponding wines that can easily age for 25 years in the cellar.
