Details

De Notenkraker was a Dutch political satirical weekly magazine between 1907 and 1936. Het Zondagsblad appeared for the first time in 1902, a Sunday supplement to the daily newspaper Het Volk, founded by the SDAP. On January 5, 1907, the supplement changed its name and became The Nutcracker. In contrast to Het Volk, which mainly published heavy political articles with few illustrations, The Nutcracker contained many cartoons. Famous draftsmen from the early days of the magazine were Leendert Jordaan and Albert Hahn Sr. The latter mainly drew sharp prints directed against the monarchy and Abraham Kuyper.
