Details
There were several styles of the 'Ball-O' lighters, such as 'Ball-O-Flint'. The ball at the top of the lighters may be removed to open an area enclosed with a cork where extra flints may be stored. Unlike most of these tiny tube lighters with a wick for the flame, these have a "pocket" and the sparks fall into the pocket to ignite it - this pocket is the same as used on catalytic lighters such as the New Method and Ray-O-Lite. Weston describes it as, "Made with a special wick to create a torchlike arch of flame...". c. early through mid-1940s
