Box (228x140x85mm) is of Western origin. Based on the well known 5-drawer model. With an attached flap-front and a loose (slightly repaired) lid. Made of thick cardboard pasted with pinkish marbled, textured paper printed in dark red with images of a Chinese pagoda and Bamboo 8 and 1. Inside there are four trays for the tiles and four narrow trays for counters, dice and wind indicators. An instruction manual is also enclosed. Tiles (21x29x12mm) are made of slightly sanded quality wood. With on top a thin layer of a synthetic material printed with characters and images. The corners of the tiles are rounded. There are (belong?) no spare tiles to the set. Counters are thin strips of celluloid. In red, purple, white and black.. Dice are made of bone with with Western points. Wind indicators are made of celluloid. Their container is a Western version of a Ming box made of celluloid with a French Ivory pattern featuring the E-wind. Instruction manual is the red Babcock’s Rules booklet. 10th printing 1923.
