Details
Box (223x143x90mm) is of German origin. Made of cardboard covered with black fake-leather. The attached, somewhat wadded lid features a golden Chinaman-with- drooping-mustache plus lettering, one of the Golconda logo’s. Behind the attached front with a blank metal sliding lock, there are four trays for the tiles and one for the counters etc. The inside of the box and the trays are covered with ochre-colored fake-leather. At the inside of the lid show a Golconda signature and the text MAJONG. Tiles (22x31x13mm) are German. They are made of black wood covered with a 2mm layer of synthetic material. The (somewhat worn down) characters, graphics, initials and numbers are typical for the German manufacturer Golconda. They show respect for the Chinese originals. There are four spare tiles. Counters are little flat sticks of shiny celluloid in red, green, black and ivory white. Their denomination is unclear. Dice (2x) are made of a synthetic material with Western points. Wind indicators are small disks of white celluloid. With the German O (= Ostwind) for the English (= East Wind) that is used on the tiles. There is no instruction manual. There are however 2 cards with score points etc. in Dutch. * Between 1920 and 1930 Germany imported only a few Mah Jongg sets from China.
