Made in England by The Chad Valley Co. Ltd. The company once was one of England’s most important toy makers. Chad Valley has used its design for boxes, tiles, wind indicators and instruction booklets over and over for some thirty years. Box (235x123x155mm) is English. It is made of varnished, dark wood and has one of the typical Chad Valley grips. The front lid shows the jade-green Chad Valley Mah Jongg characters. The box has 5 drawers. One of them has 4 compartments for counters etc. Tiles (20x28x11mm ) are English. They are made from Bakelite with sharp corners. The CV-characters and graphics are imprinted in three colors. Dots and Bamboos are the simple version. Bamboo 1 features a peacock. Counters are strips of some synthetic material with Western points.. Dice (2x) are made of bone and have Western points. Wind indicators (4x) are made from metal with (fake) enameled Chad Valley own wind characters. Instruction manual is printed by/for Chad Valley, the 5th edition, December 1923).
