Details
Box (214x173x60mm) is of Western/US origin. See backside: ‘Patented February 27, 1923. Tindeco.’. Made of black and gold printed tin. The attached and over-hanging lid features the Peling-logo with on both sides Chinese characters. This logo appear also on various other sets. The black and the golden borders of the lid have been neatly tidied up. The yellow copper interior has a loose divider to separate tiles and counters etc. Tiles (21x28x11mm) are Chinese. The bamboo is of average quality. The engraving is good. The Peling is a peacock. The tiles are somewhat soiled. Two of the four spare tiles show trial dots. Counters are made of rather coarse bone with Western denomination. Dice (4x) are made of bone with Chinese points. Their container is a (blackened) Cricket box. Wind discs are made of black horn and feature white, rather blurred characters. Their container is a black horn Ming box with a green character on its lid.. The set lacks an instruction manual. * The patent is printed in tiny letters on the back of the lid. The box is also interesting for tin collectors.
