Details
Box (190x69x149mm) is most likely of Western origin. It is a small, etui-like case. The padded lid and front close with push buttons. The outside is covered with dull black fake leather. For the interior shiny blue fake leather has been used. On the inside of the lid the Babcock logo and characters are imprinted in gold. Behind it is room for the instruction manual that, with the help of a decorated ribbon, can be pulled up and out. The top part of the interior is fixed and provides separate compartments for counters, dice, wind discs and spare tiles. The bottom part offers space for the four small drawers. Tiles (13x18x9mm) are Chinese. They are remarkable small. A fine quality bone and bamboo has been used in the ideal 50/50 proportion. In comparison with the deluxe box, the engraving is rather plain. There are four spare tiles. Counters are of a good but somewhat crude quality bone with rounded ends and Western denomination. Dice (4x) are made of bone with Chinese points. Their containers is a small square box of bone (or possibly ivory) with a sliding lid featuring the Babcock characters in green. Wind discs are made of bone with green characters and black initials. They fit exactly in the interior of an almost similar box as the one for the dice. The Babcock characters on the lid are however red and upside-down. On of the sides has been repaired. Instruction manual is the red Babcock booklet, 12th edition November 1923.
