Details
Box (242x195x166mm) is of Western origin. Made of wood covered with brown, top quality fake leather. With on top a sunken brass handle and golden initials: GMCN - 1924. The two small doors have messing hinges and lock-with-(provisional gold colored) key. Inside the 5 drawers have brass rings. There is also a special place for an instruction manual. De bottom of the box has been replaced. Tiles (21x31x14mm) are made of fine and matured, somewhat transparent bone. A bit too thick for the thin bamboo back. The engraving is attractive. Featuring the elaborate Characters and Bamboos. The eight flower tiles are divided into four pairs showing flower baskets. The numbers on the pairs read from right to left. There are only two spare tiles. Counters are of an average quality bone with Western denomination. Dice (4x) are made of bone with Chinese points. Their container is a Cricket box. Wind discs are made of bone with green characters. Their container is a Ming-box. Instruction manual is bounded, some-what soiled book ‘The Official Rules of the Mah-Jongg League Limited’. First edition 1924. Written and illustrated by Olga Racster.
