Details
Box (243x115x35mm) is of Chinese origin. Made of cardboard covered with packing paper. The loose lid features a multicolored label with a detailed illustration of Mah Jong playing Chinese and text. The box is low and rectangular. The interior contains a taller box for counters and a smaller box for the playing cards. Both covered with packing paper. The remaining space is used for four black racks (with black elastic bands to hold the cards), a Cricket box and a Ming cylinder. Playing cards (25x82mm) are Chinese. They have the standard Chinese oblong measurements. The cards feature rather plain characters with English text. Bamboo 1 and the flower cards are a bit prettier. The backside has a predictable pattern. There are no spare cards. Counters are made of rather crude bone. with Western denomination and have their own little box. Their numbers are rather unusual since there are p.p. 9 counters of 10 points and just 5 of 2 points. Dice (4x) are made of bone with Chinese points. Their container is a Cricket box. Wind discs are made of white bone with green characters. Their container is of white bone with a green character on its lid. Instruction manual is a standard Chinese brochure dated 1923 that has been specially printed for this set. There is also an order card from the American distributor.
