Nail vase, small opening, clear. Characteristic for the Leerdam Unica from the mid-1930s are objects in which air bubbles are trapped in the interior of the glass wall. We see a refined application of this technique in a number of Leerdam Serica that were created between 1936 and 1940 and which are also called 'nail vases' because of the decoration. Here, the wall is, as it were, broken open in a delicate manner by air bubbles that are trapped in a regular pattern in the glass skin. The decoration was caused by blowing the hot glass into a wooden mold that was provided with regularly hammered nails on the inside, creating small air bubbles.
